United Nations Committee on Science and Technology for Development

Introduction to UNCSTD

The United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD) is the United Nations’ home for discussions on science and technology – what is new, what matters, what is changing, what the impact is – and how this affects development and a sustainable future for all.

It is the forum that helps ask and frame the critical issues influencing the fields of science and technology today.

Some of the important normative issues raised include the technology and life interface, as well as governance of the use and development of frontier technologies – namely, big data analytics, biotech and genome editing, the Internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence.

The CSTD is also an open platform where proposals, ideas, experiences, cases, and intellectual thought can be channeled toward making a policy impact. It facilitates concrete collaborations between member states, NGOs and actors in the science, technology and development space.

Siva Nanda is a humanities student who describes herself as a dreamer. She spends a lot of time on various activities & gets quickly carried away by them. She being a perfectionist and a hardworking person, with her love for political science, international affairs and sociology have instilled a natural interest in MUNs. She's often known as the well-prepped and diplomatic delegate in her committees. Her appreciation for language and poetry has led her to create the blog ‘Voice-make a change' and her poetry page Ikigai. She aspires to work in the Media and Film industry and she is a  passionate singer-songwriter . She looks forward in making Imprint 3.0  one of the best conference experiences.

Vaishnavi (USG-Creative)

Vaishnavi Kethineni

Co Chair

Meet Vaishnavi Kethineni, currently a 10th grade student in India. In her words, she’s a living meme constantly using spare time to bring life to plain notebook pages. She spends copious amounts of time laughing at and skimming through memes on the internet and pointlessly scrolling through her Instagram feed. Jokes apart, Vaishnavi thoroughly embraces the power of visuals as an avid artist and passionate designer. She is a design enthusiast at heart and advocates for making the best of every moment and facet of life. Having served in various capacities in MUNs as well as being compelled to organize everything she does efficiently, she believes she can integrate the elements of a great conference and strives to make UNCSTD at ImprintMUN probably the best committee of the conference!
