World Conference on Women

Introduction to WCW

Gender equality is a basic human right. Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the UN General Assembly on 10 December 1948, stated that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” and Article 2 stated that “everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion,  birth or other status.”

Thirty one years after the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 18 December 1979. This was followed 16 years later by the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, adopted in 1995 at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing. The Beijing conference was preceded by three conferences on women and gender equality.

Naqsh Fatima

Co-Chair

Naqsh Fatima is currently a freshman at the University of Punjab, Lahore pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Statistics. She has been part of the debating circuit for the past 5 years, and has been part of the MUN circuit for more or less 3 years. She has participated in various reputable international and national Model UN Conferences as a Delegate, Secretariat and member of the Executive Council.
For Naqsh, the most significant component of a Model United Nations conference is the quality of debate and the level of diplomacy that shall follow. If you have the ability to negotiate and come to terms with those around you, you shall make it to her good list.
Fun fact about Naqsh: She loves the show Brooklyn Nine Nine, and identifies herself as a 'Cool Nerd'.
You will probably always find her in the UNHRC or UNCSW as a delegate; her remarkable fascination towards issues pertaining to them does often emerge in her write-ups and articles. Cumulatively, Naqsh Fatima is your average youth yearning to make her mark with her journalism, public speaking and creative skills simultaneously.
